CARBO Sostenible is a spin-off from the company OPTIM Consult, both founded by Juan Andrés López Silva. CARBO has experience in developing projects and policies to tackle Climate Change, including carbon emissions reduction projects, including sectors such as: energy, transport, agribusiness, among others.

CARBO is a founding member of the Colombian National Carbon Association (ASOCARBONO) and the Association for the Reduction and Removal of GHG Emissions (ASOREDD+).

CARBO SOSTENIBLE develops high-integrity carbon and biodiversity credit projects across the full spectrum of Nature-Based Solutions biochar, and biodiversity conservation, generating measurable environmental outcomes and positioning local communities as guardians of nature conservation. CARBO SOSTENIBLE also provides strategic consulting in climate change mitigation, carbon markets, and environmental policy, drawing on more than 60 projects in Latin America, Africa, and beyond.

Our mandate

CARBO SOSTENIBLE’s mandate is to design and implement high-integrity carbon and biodiversity credit projects that generate verified environmental benefits, while providing strategic consulting in climate change, Nature-Based Solutions, and voluntary carbon markets, strengthening the role of local communities as custodians of biodiversity and ecosystem conservation.

Activities

CARBO SOSTENIBLE leads the financial and technical structuring of carbon and biodiversity credit projects through the following activities:

Our founder

Juan Andrés López Silva

Founder and Manager

He is a Business Administrator, M.A. in International Economics and Environment from the Johns Hopkins University International School for Advanced Studies. He has over 25 years of experience in design, financing, and implementation of environmental and sustainable development projects and policies in Colombia, Latin America, and other developing countries. He has also leaded International Cooperation, bilateral schemes and voluntary market negotiations and programs, and has developed environmental and social strategies and policies for the infrastructure sector.

He has designed and developed projects in areas such as:

Climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Rural development, sustainable agribusinesses, and productive value chains for vulnerable communities.
REDD+ and forest conservation.
Carbon financing for the CDM, bilateral schemes, and the voluntary market.
Energy, transport, and urban planning.

As international consultant in energy, transport, environment, and social project management, he has worked and interacted with companies and institutions such as ECOPETROL, PETROBRAS, World Bank, IFC, Interamerican Development Bank, CAF, PNUD, USAID, FINDETER, BANOBRAS and various ministries and institutions related to the environmental, energy, transport, and agriculture sectors, nationally e internationally.
