El Tigre REDD+

REDD+ project in the El Tigre Indigenous Reserve (Resguardo Indígena Guahibo de la Región de El Tigre), Puerto Gaitán, Meta — Orinoquía region. 14,132 ha of eligible forest within a total reserve area of ~47,011 ha. Community: Sikuani people — ~1,800 inhabitants in 14 communities (Ministerio de Cultura, 2012). Deforestation drivers: agricultural frontier expansion (extensive cattle ranching by settlers and indigenous), illicit crops, and timber extraction. Estimated GHG reductions: 1,719,967 tCO₂e over 30 years (57,332 tCO₂e/year average). Activities: construction of the Indigenous Life Plan, territorial planning, sustainable productive systems, social investment (health, education, infrastructure), and biodiversity and forest monitoring.
